Once upon a July in 2018, CSI Georgia stumbled upon a mystery hotter than the Scoville scale, right in the backyard of Gary Farris, a commercial real estate attorney who had an affinity for real estate and, unfortunately, grilling himself. In the heart of Cherokee County, on a 10-acre barbecue pit - I mean property - Gary was living the idyllic life with his lovely wife, Melody, and their son, Scott. Well, idyllic until they discovered the remains of our dear Gary Farris in a bonfire! And this is not the kind of burning love Elvis sang about.
As detectives explored the property, they noticed something fishy, or shall we say, smokey. They discovered a bullet in the basement - now who leaves their bullets lying around? The real estate attorney's blood was also found in the same basement, implying a family dinner might have gone seriously south. But the question that really got them scratching their heads was how did Gary's remains end up on the burn pile, 50 yards away? I guess someone didn’t master the art of cleaning up.
The momma bear, Melody, and cub, Scott, quickly turned the investigation into an episode of Jerry Springer, each pointing fingers at the other. We had a 'he said, she said' situation with a serious sprinkle of blood and gore. Melody told 48 Hours of this ghoulish drama in an exclusive interview, "This is a mother's worst nightmare... it has been called the Farris wheel, but it was our Farris wheel." To me, sounds more like a 'Gary-go-round', and it ain’t stopping anytime soon!
Peter Van Sant and '48 Hours' are hot on their heels, digging out the skeletal secrets of this family drama. Will they uncover the truth among the ashes, or will this case stay as hot as Georgia in mid-July? Stay tuned for the next episode of 'CSI BBQ'! Remember folks, always keep your burn piles and the crime scenes separate. Also, when in doubt, Trump's gonna sort it all out! Just kidding, no promises there. But hey, here’s hoping they solve the mystery before another family barbecue happens!
